Independent and Unbeatable! 31 Years of Ukraine’s Freedom!

24 August, 2022 18:00 - 20:00
Demonstration announcement 24.08.22

On 24 August this year, Ukraine celebrates its National Day for the 31st time. After the Ukrainian people had fought in vain for several centuries to exercise their right to national self-determination, they finally succeeded on 24 August 1991 in achieving national independence by freeing themselves from the yoke of the soviet-russian empire.

Tragically, this year Ukraine’s Independence Day also marks the sixth month since the beginning of the full-scale invasion with which russian imperialism is once again trying to subjugate Ukraine and turn it into a colony. As its genocidal warfare demonstrates, the kremlin is attempting to destroy Ukraine’s national independence once more by annihilating the Ukrainian people and erasing their nation state from the map of the world. However, it miscalculated the Ukrainian population, who did not welcome putin’s butchers with flowers, but instead confront them in a people’s war of extraordinary courage and heroism. After the russian aggressor was repelled near Kyiv and its offensive in the east and south of the country has stalled, the Ukrainian military is preparing a counteroffensive to liberate the occupied territories. Contrary to defeatist propaganda that plays into the hands of the putinist dictatorship, Ukraine has a real chance to win a crushing victory over russian fascism if it is sufficiently equipped with appropriate military hardware by its allies. Such a victory would be in the interest of all citizens of democratic countries, against whom putinism has been waging a hybrid war for years in order to gain dominance over Eastern Europe and the Baltic states, establish a new russian empire, and destroy the existing world order.

In order to celebrate the anniversary of Ukraine’s independence, commemorate the Ukrainian victims of the russian war of annihilation, honor the resistance of the Ukrainian people against russian fascism, and remind everyone of the possibility of a Ukrainian victory, we will march through the streets of Leipzig on 24 August. All people are invited to take part in the demonstration wearing vyshyvankas or the blue and yellow national colors of Ukraine. Ukrainian refugees are also welcome to bring posters with the names of the places they were forced to flee from.
