Nine years of war, one year of full-scale invasion – freedom and peace for Ukraine!

24 February, 2023 17:00 - 20:00
Demonstration announcement 24.02.23

Dear Ukrainians and friends of Ukraine,

On 24 February one year ago, we were all shaken by the horrific news from Ukraine. Terrorist russia had launched a full-scale invasion. The international community was appalled by the atrocities committed by russians in Ukraine. This major war in the heart of Europe has left hardly anyone indifferent.

Over the past year, Ukrainians have shown the world their strength and resilience. Their courage and endurance continue to inspire. Brave defenders are fighting for Ukrainian territory and standing guard over Europe and the world. Every day, at the risk of their lives, they confront evil and defend Ukraine’s future. Ukrainians at home and abroad are united by one goal: to bring about Ukraine’s victory as quickly as possible. A victory in a war that did not begin a year ago on 24 February, but in early 2014, when russia occupied Crimea. The bloodthirsty president putin and his criminal supporters claim they are “protecting” people in eastern and southern Ukraine, but in reality they have declared war on the entire democratic world.

German society has shown great support for Ukrainian war refugees. The residents of Leipzig opened their doors and offered shelter to thousands of Ukrainians. For 12 months now, committed people have been gathering at rallies and demonstrations to express their solidarity with the Ukrainian people and to demand stronger support for Ukraine from the German government.

We call on everyone to take part in the demonstration on 24 February at 5:00 p.m. (starting at Augustusplatz) to support Ukraine in its fight for territorial integrity and independence. During a candlelight march through Leipzig’s city center, we will jointly commemorate the victims of russian terror and all defenders who gave their lives for security in Ukraine and in Europe.

This criminal war must be ended as soon as possible. To achieve this, Ukrainian soldiers need heavy weapons that Germany can – and must – deliver to stop the destruction of lives in Ukraine. Together, we will support Ukraine in its fight against russian fascism!
