Not Past, Not Forgotten – Four Months of russian War Against Ukraine!

Four months ago, russia began its attack on Ukraine. Since then, tens of thousands of Ukrainians have lost their lives, including soldiers defending their homeland, freedom, and democracy, as well as civilians who fell victim to the countless war crimes committed by the russian army. There is no end to the war in sight. putin’s ambition to destroy Ukraine’s national independence will only be satisfied when the entire country lies in ruins and the Ukrainian people are completely subjugated to his tyranny. Yet even then, his imperial pursuit of great-power dominance will not stop, but will continue to turn westward, which is why a Ukrainian victory is in the interest of all European citizens.
While Ukrainian soldiers risk their lives to stop the largest land army in the world – and thus also fight for us here in Germany – German citizens are beginning to grow accustomed to the images and reports of the war in Ukraine. Outrage over russia’s attack is increasingly giving way to indifference, a “nothing new in the east” attitude, and the motivation to support Ukraine is waning. People are increasingly concerned about the war’s consequences for themselves, such as rising energy prices, inflation, and shortages of sunflower oil. For many Germans, their own prosperity seems a bigger problem than the death and suffering in Ukraine and the threat to our way of life, freedom, and democracy posed by russia’s aggression.
Meanwhile, Chancellor Olaf Scholz continues to play a double game. He regularly promises the urgently needed weapons to the Ukrainian armed forces, but delays their delivery to keep the option open of acting as an “honest broker” in negotiations between Ukraine and russia for a Minsk 3. This practical inaction not only calls Germany’s reliability as a member of the western world into question, but is also, considering our own history, a disgrace: our government is not doing everything to repel the dictator’s unlawful attack on freedom and democracy, aimed at the destruction of Ukraine.
Therefore, we invite you to a rally on Monday, June 27, 2022, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Nikolaikirchhof in Leipzig, to demonstrate for real peace, freedom, and democracy, to commemorate the countless Ukrainian victims of the fascist war of annihilation, and to show that we do not accept the inaction of our government and the unwillingness of part of the German population to defend our way of life. This way of life was won in eastern Germany, among other things, through the “peaceful revolution,” and now, more than ever, it is necessary to defend it. We welcome everyone willing to stand up for it and join our rally.
