Stop Ecocide in Ukraine!

This morning, russian fascists blew up the Kakhovka dam in the Kherson region. The destruction of the dam is yet another russian war crime and must be regarded as the use of a weapon of mass destruction. The Ukrainian president, Zelenskyy, warned last October that the russian military had mined the dam and could detonate it. He called on the international community to send an observer mission to ensure the dam’s safety, but his appeal went unheard.

By blowing up the dam, russian fascism is committing not only a war crime, but also an ecocide. The uncontrolled flooding of the area is killing countless animals and destroying nature. The destruction of the dam also follows a genocidal intent, as it annihilates the livelihoods of hundreds of thousands of people in the region. In addition, as the water drains from the Dnipro, russian mines are being exposed, which could lead to numerous civilian casualties. The water from the Kakhovka reservoir is essential for cooling the safety systems of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, the largest nuclear power plant in Europe. By destroying the dam, russia is putting the security of all of Europe at risk in order to prevent Ukrainian troops from crossing the Dnipro as part of the upcoming counteroffensive.

Once again, the destruction of the Kakhovka dam shows that russia is a terrorist state that will stop at nothing to wipe out Ukraine in a genocidal war of annihilation. Therefore, we are calling for a rally today, 06 June 2023, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Richard-Wagner-Platz. We want to state clearly that russia is a terrorist state and collect donations for the flood victims.
