Unbreakable, Independent! For a Free Ukraine!

On 24 August, Ukraine celebrates for the 32nd time its existence as an independent state. This is not to be taken for granted. The large-scale invasion, in which russian fascism expanded its war against the country that it has been waging since 2014 on 24 February 2022, is a genocidal war of annihilation. The declared goal of this war is the destruction of Ukraine. Ukraine is therefore fighting not only for its independence but for its very existence. While it is supported by the West, this support so far has only enabled it to withstand the russian aggressor. For an independent Ukraine to exist in peace and security in the long term, it must decisively defeat russian fascism. Such a victory would also be in the interest of all citizens of the free world, because Ukraine’s struggle for survival is simultaneously a decisive battle in the war between russia as a fascist dictatorship and liberal democracies. For years, russian fascism has waged a war against the West to destroy the international order. The battlefield of this war is Ukraine, which thereby forms the bulwark of the free world. Contrary to defeatist propaganda, a Ukrainian victory is possible, but it depends heavily on Western support. The West must finally help Ukraine not only to survive, but to decisively defeat russian fascism.

To celebrate Ukraine’s Independence Day, to demand support for Ukraine in its victory over russian fascism, and to honor the Ukrainian victims of this genocidal war of annihilation, we will gather on Thursday, 24 August 2023, at the market square to march in a demonstration through the streets of Leipzig from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
