Sofiia Olena Kalmykova and Jan Uplegger will read from the book “I Am Transforming…” by Volodymyr Vakulenko, translated by Beatrix Kersten.
The Ukrainian writer Volodymyr Vakulenko came under russian occupation in his home village near the Ukrainian city of Izium in early March 2022. He had three weeks before he was taken by russian soldiers, tortured, and murdered. During those three weeks, he recorded his observations on 35 densely written notebook pages. He managed to hide these notes before he was silenced forever.
Through readings of his poems and notes, together with the Friends of Ukraine in Leipzig, we commemorate Volodymyr Vakulenko and the many other victims of Russia’s war of aggression.
This initiative is thanks to Jan Uplegger (@januplegger).
Special thanks to Schaubühne Lindenfels Leipzig (@schaubuehne_lindenfels) for their support.
